A special build of HLMSW available here http://www.hlmsw.com/updates7/Beta/HLMSWv7SetupTest.msi will allow you to run and test some of the new features using existing data structures (although it should not be installed on the same computer that has v3 of HLMSW installed). When this version starts the following warning is displayed and not all new features are available:

Remove Security Prompt with Outlook

I came across this nifty utiltity that will be of assistance to users that use Outlook to send their emails from HLMSW.

At the moment whenever you send an email, you must answer a security question (a step that was added to remove the possibiliy of spammers or viruses taking over yoru Outlook).

If you want to get around this, check out this free software:

Advanced Security for Outlook

I have not used it myself, and you should probably ask your system adminstrator before installing it, but it may save you some time.

New HLMSWv7 Test Build

The main purpose of this version is to test a new Windows 7/Vista-compatible version of HLMSW but also introduced a number of new features which are outlined in this document: http://www.hlmsw.com/files/HLMSWv7TestNotes.pdf

This verison should only be used byse users with test facilities and should NOT be used on a live system until the final release.

Please read the installation notes before downloading and installing this version.

This version of HLMSW has new functionality related to Zinfonia.

This build (which is located in the Beta section) includes changes that allow you to search Zinfonia for composer information and also allows you to use character-based wildcards to search character, numeric and auto increment Extra Database fields.

The wildcards work like this:

1___ will find all numbers between 1000 to 1999

1[123]__ will find all numbers between 1100 to 1399

1[^123]__ will find all numbers between 1000 to 1999 but NOT between 1100 to 1399

HLMSW and Vista/Windows 7

HLMSW versions 3 and below will not operate under Windows 7 or Vista.

We are already testing a new version which rectifies this problem which we will include in a major release scheduled for early 2010, and should work on both 32 and 64-bit versions with one disclaimer being that you will need to mark the "Run as Administrator" option.

New use of the Alternate Work Title Field

Now that work on the Zinfonia Portal has commenced, I am going to need your input from time to time to make sure that the system meets your requirements and does not affect you current use of HLMSW.

The first question to ask concerns some changes that I am proposing to make to the Alternate Title field (on the Works tab below the Title and Subtitle field). Historically this field was designed to help multilingual HLMSW sites where the information that is displayed here changes according to the language of the person viewing the record according to their spoken language – this way an English user will see The Four Seasons, an Italian Le quattro stagioni, and a German Die Vier Jahreszeiten.

While designing Zinfonia , I originally intended works titles to be displayed in just two ways: The Original Published name and an English translation (if necessary). But I now plan to extend this so you can add translations in any of the supported Zinfonia languages (which are currently, English/French/German and Italian). Apart from displaying titles in a way more familiar to your clients, it will also help them when searching by title to display the correct entries. This will be particularly important for instrumental concertos that feature the instrument in the title.

So in the next version of HLMSW, I am planning on making a small change to the Works tab that allows you to change the displayed language of the alternate title so you can enter different translations, and then print them according to the language of the client or of the person printing the form as per the example below:

My question to you all though at this stage concerns how this change will affect you and in particular, I am interested to know what do you use the Alternate Work Title field now and it the values are currently printed on any forms.

This build of HLMSW adds some important new features including:

Updated Barcode routines including an internationally unique part barcode to allow individual parts to be tracked.
Shortcut keys are now completely customisable to allow for new short cuts and to solve problems caused by some keyboard layouts
Major changes to the Set Status routine to improve its speed and functionality (especially for works with a large number of parts).

Default delivery address

Hi there Peter

This seems to have happened recently, possibly after the update?

On our export agent accounts, or accounts that we have multiple addresses, the default address has changed from the normal delivery address, to the top address listed. Is there any way of resetting, or saving the default delivery address back to the correct address, so that we don't have to change the address everytime we put on an order?

Changes to the UK VAT Rate

In reponse to a number of questions, the procedure to change the VAT rate from 17.5 to 15% is as follows:

Note: to make the following changes, ALL users must be logged out of the system

In the HLMSW Configuration Editor, select the Edit Invoice/Credit Defaults button on the System Defaults tab.

Select the VAT line and click on the EDIT key

Change the value to 15% and save the changes.

It is important to note that previously entered transactions with the 17.50% VAT rate will not be altered until you edit the invoice details.

Please check the invoices BEFORE printing.

This change should only be made before any invoice is created on December 1st.

1) Group Edit

When group editing transactions, at the conclusion of the process, it was possible for HLMSW to have showing the wrong set against a transaction. If this transaction is then immediately edited and saved, then the incorrect set is also permanently saved. Until the new version is installed, we recommend that you clear the displayed transactions after a group edit is complete.

2) Forms at HLMSW Startup

On some forms and systems, HLMSW was not correctly handling the invoice values when HLMSW first starts.

When return transactions, we have had a couple of examples where the pop-up to tell you that a Late Return Letter has been generated has not popped up. Examples: 216832 and 212629AA. ANy ideas as to why this would happen? We are keeping an eye on the situation and I will tell you if there are any more.

Merged transactions

We have had a situation where two completely separate transactions (with distinct numbers) have been merged together. See 216309 and 216961. These were sent together by DHL, but when sent 216309's details were merged into 216961. When I credited the invoice, the credit came up as AB instead of AA, which suggests that HLMS is seeing 216961 as an "additional parts" transaction. I have sent some print screens and the incorrect invoice and the delivery notes to your email address (as I can't work out how to attach here!).

There is no way that this is human error. Bug? Thoughts?

Changing the default on the "Set Reserved" button.

I believe our set reservations are currently set to a default of one week. How can one change this? I would like to extend the period to one month.
